The transition from warm summer weather to cooler fall temperatures can take a toll on your skin. Come into Clinton Plastic Surgery’s medical spa and get your skin ready for a new season. Changing seasons mean changing skincare needs, and we’re ready to help you find solutions to your individual needs.
Winter Skin- What You Need to Know
Cooler, drier weather is a hallmark of fall and winter. The rapid change from summer’s warm weather can leave the skin feeling dry, chapped, and irritated. Redness, dryness, and inflammation are common complaints.
Coming to terms with summer sun damage is also an important part of the season. Patients that weren’t diligent with their sun protection may notice hyperpigmentation and other skin changes.
Winter skin needs a little extra TLC. Here are some of our best tips for the season:
- Moisturize – We always recommend that patients utilize a comprehensive, integrated skin care program using medical grade products. We carry Obagi and SkinMedica products, two great lines that are thoughtfully designed to improve and enhance the results from our in-office treatments. We can recommend a great moisturizer for your skin type. SkinMedica’s HA Rejuvenating Hydrator or Dermal Repair Cream are two excellent picks for dry winter skin.
- Repair Sun Damage – Winter is a prime time for treating sun damage. Brown spots and discoloration are best treated using our 540 lasers, the Spectra laser, or chemical peels. We can treat discoloration and sun damage on the face, chest, or hands.
- Continue Using Sun Protection- Summer isn’t the only time for sun protection. We recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen during the fall and winter to protect the skin from UV rays. Dr. Clinton recommends using at least SPF 30 daily. Reapply every two hours if you’re outdoors.

Does At-Home Skincare Matter?
Our patients come into our offices once or twice a year for a surgical or non-surgical cosmetic treatment. The rest of the year, your skin relies on you. Daily, consistent skincare habits can enhance the results of any in-office cosmetic procedures you may receive. The reverse is also true. If you neglect your skin, you may not experience the maximum benefits of your cosmetic treatments.
At home skincare matters. The good news is, it isn’t difficult. We carry carefully formulated skincare lines that offer maximum patient benefits from a few top-quality products. Give your skin an extra 10-15 minutes a day, and your skin will give you a lifetime of beauty.
