The Teens

Rhinoplasty is overwhelmingly the top cosmetic surgical procedure for teens. In 2017, the most recent year with available statistics, almost 31,000 rhinoplasty procedures were performed on U.S. teens, almost half of the total number of cosmetic surgeries performed on patients of this age group. Rhinoplasty works best on older teens, after the nose is fully developed. Many of our rhinoplasty patients are male or female teens that are at least 16 years old.

Other popular cosmetic procedures for teens include breast augmentation (patients 18+), male breast reduction, and ear surgery.

The 20s

Breast augmentation tops the chart as the most popular cosmetic surgery for patients in their 20s. In the U.S., patients in this age group account for almost a third of all breast augmentations performed. Our younger patients often come to us to correct congenital breast abnormalities through breast augmentation, including breast asymmetry, breast aplasia, and underdeveloped breasts. Women in their 20s also use breast augmentation to increase breast size and to reshape and restore the breasts after pregnancy.

Rhinoplasty and liposuction are also top procedures for patients in their 20s and are popular with both our male and female patients.

The 30s

The 30s are the most popular age for pursuing breast augmentation. In the U.S. approximately 37% of all breast augmentation patients are in their 30s. This is one of the most popular ages for breast augmentation in the Birmingham area as well. Our patients in their 30s are often looking to restore youthful breasts after pregnancy and many patients opt for a mommy makeover to restore their postpartum tummies too.

Non-surgical cosmetic treatments see an uptick on patients in their 30s. In the U.S. patients in this age group received 1.3 million Botox treatments and more than 290,000 dermal filler treatments.

The 40s and Early 50s

Liposuction, eyelid surgery, and breast augmentation are three of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures for men and women in their 40s and early 50s. This age group typically seeks out cosmetic surgery more frequently than younger patients. Our patients in their 40s and 50s see signs of aging and want to age gracefully and on their own terms.

While a substantial number of surgical cosmetic treatments were performed on patients from 40-54, nearly 565,000 on men and women in the U.S. in 2017, the number of non-surgical treatments greatly eclipses this with more than 7.1 million treatments. At our practice, Botox is very popular in this age group as are dermal filler treatments and Kybella.

Mid-50s and Beyond

Breast augmentation is a top procedure for patients in every other age group, but by the mid-50s it is much less popular. Our older patients occasional opt for breast implants, but breast lift surgery is much more common and requested. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is the most popular procedure for men and women over 50. Facelift surgery is also a top procedure.

Botox and fillers are the most requested injectable treatments for patients in their 50s, 60s, and beyond.

Plastic Surgery for Life’s Many Stages

Many of our procedures are more popular at certain ages. The same holds true for life’s stages. Our patients often come to us for plastic surgery to address changes in their bodies after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss and aging. Popular treatments for these life stages include:
